Justin Logan
Class of 2018
Basketball
Justin is a 4-year member of the basketball program and 2-year starter. This season, Justin’s senior leadership has paced the Jackets to a 13-3 record. He is the team’s 3rd leading scorer and is the top rebounder and shot blocker. He is one of the best “big men” in the Battlefield District. His growth has allowed him to become a great asset to Coach Evans’ program. Justin is a solid student and will most certainly be playing basketball in college next season.

Indoor Track
Ginny is having a great indoor track season on the heels of a stellar cross country season. She is state-qualified in all of her individual events (300m, 500m, 1000m), while having the fastest times in the region in the 500m and the 1,000m runs. Ginny also anchors the 4x800m relay team, which also leads the region. In addition to her athletic accolades, Ginny is a strong student, carrying over a 4.0 GPA this semester. She is a joy to coach and will be a force to reckon with in the regional and state meets this winter.

"AJ" is a captain of the football team and has led his team to the regional final this coming Saturday. The 1st team All District selection will be a member of the All-Region team as well at the time of voting. AJ is an invaluable member of the football program and has led the Jackets in rushing the past 2 seasons, amassing nearly 3,000 yards rushing and over 30 touchdowns.

Field Hockey
Ashley ended her high school field hockey career with the game winning goal in the State Championship game earlier this month. Ashley was selected as the District and Region Player of the Year and will certainly collect All-State honors as well. The field hockey state title was the first ever female team state championship in school history. Ashley will play college field hockey at Yale.

Carrie Stinchcomb

Cross Country
Carrie is the #1 and #2 JM Girls’ team runner all season so far. She maintains a positive attitude, she never complains about the workouts or races, and is completely driven to do her best all the time. She understands the importance of beginning the run mileage buildup in June and July, and it is now paying dividends in October. Carrie has placed in the top 15-20 runners overall in all the Invitational meets we have run this season, and will likely place as an All-district and All-region runner.?

Mitch is the #1 JM Boys’ team runner all season so far. Mitch eats, sleeps, and breathes the sport of running; he is a junior captain, and is a true team leader by example. Marshall has earned Medalist Honors in every district golf match this year, including the Battlefield District Tournament, and shot a school record, 4 under par round of 31 at Cannon Ridge in our away match against King George. As a team, JM is currently undefeated in District play and District Champs. Marshall is one of the team captains and is a member of the JMHS IB Program.

Nolan Marine is off to a hot start for the Varsity Soccer team. Currently, the team holds a 5-1-1 record, with Nolan leading the way. Marine has an area-leading 12 goals and 2 assists in 7 games for the Jackets. The Senior Captain has his team positioned well for a late season push to the Conference and Regional Playoffs. Head Coach Shamus Gordon says, “Nolan Marine is the heart of our team and is a well-rounded student athlete. Nolan's speed and aggressiveness is unmatched on the pitch. He is truly one of the finest young men I have ever had the privilege to coach.”

Alexis Clark

Track
Alexis has had a great start to her junior outdoor track season on the heels of a very successful indoor season. Alexis is the #1 Junior in the country for shot put and was the 3A State Champion in the event, her 5th individual state championship (6th overall). Also, Alexis represented James Monroe at the New Balance National Indoor Meet in New York. In addition to these accolades, Alexis was named a Free Lance Star All Area Athlete for the Winter Season. In the Spring, Alexis has continued her undefeated meet streak into April, as she has picked up shot put and discus titles at all meets, including the Wildcat Invitational and Grizzly Twilight Classic. Good luck to Alexis as she strives for more state titles in June.

Tre Lucas just completed a successful indoor track season by finishing 5th in the state in the shot put. He received all-region and all-state honors in the winter. The senior team captain is a very strong and willing leader of the JM Throws team. In his first outdoor meet, Tre has already qualified for regionals in the shot put. Tre hopes to continue his great throwing throughout the season and finish with a strong showing at the outdoor state meet.?

Rosa is a sophomore on our girls lacrosse team and a versatile player with having the ability to contribute offensively and defensively. She is a natural competitor who has the potential to become an offensive threat to our opponents. She is a creative play maker- she makes great feeds to her teammates and has nice dodging skills to getting herself in front of the cage to score. In addition, she is also a play maker on the defensive side of the field, fearless of taking risks. She is extremely aggressive and can contain scoring opposition.

On the basketball team, he is a team captain, leading scorer and potential All-Region player. Indoor Track
Matthew is an outstanding young man and a model student-athlete. Matt has been a member of the cross country and track programs for several seasons and is a standout in each sport. This year in winter track, Matt has run great times and is one of the student leaders of our team. When he is not on the track, Matt is a member of the Gladys P. Todd program, where he will graduate from Germanna Community College in the spring. Matt hopes to continue his academic career at a service academy.

Maria is a standout on the JMHS Swim Team. She is a returning State Qualifier and one of the fastest swimmers in the area. She leads the team with high place finishes in every meet and is this year's team captain for the girls squad. Her leadership is contagious, as she has attended every practice and has been a great example to all of the younger swimmers on the roster.

Will is a captain of the Varsity Boys’ Basketball Team and is a multi-sport athlete. In the fall, Will is a member of the golf team and also in the spring, he is a standout on our lacrosse team. Will is a very intelligent and hard working student-athlete. In addition to his athletic activities, Will is the president of DECA and a strong student academically, carrying over a 4.0 GPA.

A.J. Johnson

Football
AJ was our most valuable player on offense this season. He was 1st team All-Conference and will be 1st team All Region. He rushed for 1,637 yards on 166 carries. He also had 19 touchdowns this year. In addition to his offensive statistics, he was our best Special Teams player, as he was the leading tackler on all return units. He’s a great player but even better student-athlete. He will be a vital piece of our football team in the 2017 season.

Wally has been a 4 year starter on our Varsity hockey team. She was the captain and lone senior on this year’s team and helped lead them to the State finals 2 years in a row! She was named to the All State 1st Team as a Defensemen. She excels on the field and in the classroom. She will be continuing her academic and athletic careers at Old Dominion University next fall.

Hunter is the senior team captain for cross country and has placed first in 5 races this season. He has a personal best of 16:47. Just yesterday, Hunter placed first at the Conference 28 Championship Meet and has advanced to the 3A East Region Meet next week.

Makayla is a joy to have on the cheer team. She's a team player and is always looking for ways to improve. She is an OUTSTANDING student in the class and has high expectations/standards for herself. She's self-motivated and is a pleasure to work with. When ask to help/tutor another student, she does not hesitate in assisting. She's always ready to help whenever she can. Mary is a sophomore defenseman. This is her second year as a starting varsity player. As a freshman, she was 1st Team All-Conference, 1st Team All Region and 2nd Team All State. Mary is a strong defender and plays an important part of a strong defensive unit which helped carry her team to the State finals last year.

Hunter Frizzell

Track
Hunter regionally qualified in the 800m (personal record), 1600m and 3200m races. He is also a member of the 4x4 relay team. He finished 2nd in the 800m Run at the Conference Championships and was a member of the 4x400m Relay Conference 28 Championship Team that finished 3rd. Hunter has demonstrated his leadership ability both on and off the track, providing a positive and inspiring role model for the distance runners and the underclassmen to emulate.

Cleo has state qualified in the 100m and 200m races this season and is also a member of the 4x1 and 4x4 relay teams that have qualified as well. Last week, Cleo won the 200m at the conference championship. She has stepped up as a leader and mentor for the younger runners demonstrating her leadership ability both on and off the track, providing a positive role model for other to emulate. Cleo signed her letter of intent with JMU as a Student Athlete where she will be running Track next year.

Nolan Marine is the heart of our soccer team and has a level of maturity and selflessness rarely seen these days. Nolan is one of the top goal scorers on the boys soccer team and in the area. He has scored 14 goals and tallied 11 assists. His quiet leadership as a junior has given the Jackets a 13-2 record, their best in over a decade.

Lucy is the 3-time Conference Singles Champion and has been #1 on the girl’s tennis team for the last 3 seasons. She is the leader of the undefeated girl’s tennis squad and is a very hard worker. She’s a great student as well and plans to play tennis at the next level.

Mikella is the goalie on our girls soccer team. She works extremely hard in practice everyday and does all she can to keep our team in games. Alexis Clark

Alexis captured the 2016 3A Indoor Track State title in the shot put and set the 3A state meet record. She also broke the school record (45-4.5) and the All-time 3A state record in the shot. She finished the indoor season ranked USA #1 Sophomore, USA #20 overall, VA #1 overall in all divisions, and Virginia #7 all-time in all divisions in the shot put. Alexis represented JM at the New Balance National Championships in NYC. She looks to represent the Outdoor Track team strongly this spring in the Shot Put, Discus and 4x100m events.

She has advanced to the VHSL Group 3A State Championships in the Triple Jump, setting a new JM Indoor Track and Field record - 36-8, Long Jump with a jump of 16-6.5 and the 55 meter dash with a run of 7.54 sec. She is also qualified to compete in the 2016 New Balance Nationals Indoor in the Triple Jump. She has stepped up and taken on a leadership role both in practice and at meets. Providing positive leadership to her teammates in the realm of team building and being a positive role model.

TJ is one of the hardest working team members on the girl’s team. She leads her lane during every workout and sets the standard for hard work. She never shies away from a challenge and broke 7 minutes when she swam the 500 freestyle for the first time. TJ mostly swims the 50 and 100 free, but is also strong enough to compete in any other event.

Matt has been the main scorer of points for the boy’s team. He has qualified for States in the 50 freestyle so far and is hoping to repeat it for the 100 free. He is also one of the team captains and dedicated to taking the team to the next level. Matt swims everything from 50 to 500 free and the 200 IM, so it makes him a big asset to the team. He has been accepted to the Randolph-Macon swim team.

Percy boasts great length and versatility on the court as he can defend all five positions. He has been a major contributor as a scorer and rebounder over the past two seasons. In the fall, Percy plans to attend a four-year university on an academic/athletic scholarship.

Matt Howard: Matt is a very solid all-around swimmer. He placed 7th in the 500 free at states with a 5:03.18, and 11th in the 200 IM. He was also a part of 2 relays (Mens 200 & 400 Free) that received 4th at states. He is a record holder in the mens 200 and 400 meter free relay.
